Egypt launches Sustainable Pesticide Management Framework project

Arab Finance: The Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk has launched the Sustainable Pesticide Management Framework (SPMF) project in Egypt, as per a ministry statement.

The project aims to enhance sustainable agricultural pesticide management in nine countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with investments exceeding $13 million, Farouk pointed out during the event.

The project is adopted by CropLife International, in coordination with the Agricultural Pesticide Committee (APC).

Farouk noted that Egypt uses around 10,000 tons of pesticides in agricultural lands, while 5 million tons of pesticides are produced and manufactured globally.

It was directed not to register any pesticide until it is field tested in Egypt for natural and chemical properties and any impurities, in addition to determining the level of risk to human health and the environment before using it, the minister said.
