Austria’s Kronospan considers major manufacturing projects in Egypt

Arab Finance: Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir met with Akgun Okay, the CEO for the Middle East and China at the wood manufacturing giant Kronospan, to outline the company’s future plans in Egypt, as per a statement.

The company presented its plan to establish a stone plastic composite (SPC) factory on a 300,000 to 400,000 square-meter site, producing flooring and wall cladding materials.

Additionally, Kronospan aims to partner with Egypt’s Nag Hamady Fiberboard Company to manufacture medium-density fiberboard (MDF) wood for furniture, leveraging an existing 150,000-square-meter facility and incorporating new production lines while maintaining the current workforce and equipment.

El-Wazir underscored the Ministry of Industry’s commitment to supporting Kronospan’s expansion in Egypt, promising streamlined industrial licensing processes to facilitate rapid production.

With all raw materials sourced locally, he noted that an optimal location near Mediterranean ports, such as Alexandria or Gergoub, is under consideration for the SPC factory to be built on.
