Egypt’s annual headline inflation falls to 26.3% in October: CAPMAS

Arab Finance: Egypt's annual headline inflation dropped to 26.3% in October 2024, compared to 38.5% in the same month of 2023, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced in a press release on November 10th.

The CAPMAS report showed a year-on-year (YoY) surge in prices of the food and beverage segment by 26.9%, the alcoholic beverage and tobacco segment by 35.1%, the clothing and footwear segment by 24.4%.

Moreover, the prices of the transport segment rose by 30.2% last October, while the prices of housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel segment increased by 20.3%.

The prices of the healthcare segment also increased in October by 31.3% YoY, while the restaurants and hotels segment went up by 30.8%.

Meanwhile, the prices of the communication segment levelled up 12.6% YoY last month.

On the other hand, prices of the education segment remained unchanged at 12.3%.

As for the monthly consumer price index (CPI), it recorded 240.0 points in October, with inflation at 1.5% as compared to 2.3% in September, the CAPMAS noted.

It is worth noting that Egypt’s annual headline inflation narrowed to 26% last September, compared to 40.3% in the same month of 2023.
