Arab Finance: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting to review progress on the government’s initiative to convert vehicles to run on natural gas, as per a statement.
Madbouly emphasized the importance of transitioning government vehicles to natural gas, citing cost savings, environmental benefits, and alignment with the country’s clean energy objectives.
He also highlighted the need to accelerate the program, increasing the number of targeted vehicle conversions from 122,000 to 250,000 while introducing incentives to encourage adoption.
The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi presented the economic benefits of the “One Million Gas-Powered Cars Plan,” which aims to replace traditional fuels with compressed natural gas (CNG) across public and commercial transportation.
The initiative is projected to yield significant savings for the state and citizens while boosting the domestic gas market.
Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) Mohamed Khodair provided an update on the plan’s execution.
To date, 562,000 vehicles have been converted, supported by 805 operational filling stations with a 60% utilization rate.
