Arab Finance: Telecom Egypt (WE) has introduced a price hike for both home internet services and recharge cards, which came into effect starting Friday, December 6th.
The company revealed that the cost of its home internet packages rose by 31%, while recharge cards increased by 32%.
This move comes after months of pressure from mobile companies operating in Egypt, which have been calling for price increases due to rising fuel costs and the flotation of the Egyptian pound's exchange rate.
Under the new pricing structure, home internet services saw a range of price increases.
The cost of a 140-gigabyte (GB) internet package rose from EGP 160 to EGP 210, while a 1-terabyte package increased from EGP 1,050 to EGP 1,360, excluding value-added tax (VAT).
Other packages will also see price adjustments, with the 200-GB plan increasing from EGP 225 to EGP 290, the 250-GB plan rising from EGP 280 to EGP 360, and the 400-GB plan climbing from EGP 440 to EGP 570.
Additionally, the 600-GB plan increased from EGP 650 to EGP 850.
Alongside the increase in internet prices, the cost of recharge cards also rose.
The price of the EGP 10 recharge card is now EGP 13, the EGP 12.5 card costs EGP 16.5, and the price of the EGP 15 card went up to EGP 19.5.
Additionally, the price of the EGP 20 recharge card increased to EGP 26, while the EGP 29 recharge card price is EGP 38 now, all excluding VAT.
