Arab Finance: The Egyptian government is set to launch a new national initiative to convert vehicles to operate on natural gas, with implementation scheduled to begin early next year, as per a statement by the Egyptian cabinet on December 22nd.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized the importance of the initiative, highlighting its role in reducing carbon emissions and offering financial savings for citizens.
He also noted the ongoing coordination between the Ministries of Finance and Petroleum to finalize the initiative's details and ensure smooth implementation.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi confirmed the readiness to launch the program, supported by an awareness campaign to inform citizens about its benefits.
The initiative targets converting 1.5 million vehicles to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG).
A joint working group from the two ministries has developed a detailed plan, including incentives for citizens to participate in the program.
The conversion of diesel-powered cars to CNG is expected to reduce diesel consumption by 50%, resulting in significant savings in the subsidies allocated to petroleum products.
The initiative will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 1.5 million tons annually.
As part of the preparations, the Ministry of Petroleum has developed a unified website for citizens interested in participating, which will officially launch at the start of the initiative.
Applicants can register online or at affiliated companies' customer service centers.
