Telecom Egypt activates Mediterranean subsea link on 2Africa with Cisco technology

Arab Finance: Telecom Egypt has announced the activation of a Mediterranean subsea link on the 2Africa cable system in collaboration with Cisco, as per a press release.

The link connects Port Said, Egypt, to Marseille, France, through Genoa, Italy, using Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS).

The project addresses the increasing demand for subsea network capacity driven by cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

It enhances Telecom Egypt’s subsea cable operations and increases international traffic capacity while improving the efficiency of its assets on the 2Africa system.

Cisco's NCS, supported by Acacia’s multi-haul coherent module, enables effective data transmission with reduced energy usage.

The system allows operators to adjust optical transmission signal bandwidth, modulation formats, and spectral efficiency to optimize capacity across subsea cables.

At 45,000 kilometers, 2Africa is one of the world’s largest subsea cable systems, linking Europe, Asia, and Africa and positioning Egypt as an important hub for global connectivity.
