Arab Finance: Six ships linked to the UK and the US have returned to the Red Sea since January 19th, 2025, Bloomberg cited the Joint Maritime Information Center.
This came after Yemen’s Houthis pledged to halt attack on the vessels following a ceasefire in Gaza.
“JMIC assesses that as the peace agreement progresses and vessels and infrastructure remain untargeted, improved stability is expected; however, the risk in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden remain elevated,” the center said.
Meanwhile, Denmark’s A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S, Switzerland’s MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. SA, and Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd. Affirmed that they would not immediately resume transits due to uncertainty around security.
The attacks have forced many vessels to take the longer route around Africa to avoid the Red Sea, extending journey times and adding to shipping costs.
