Egypt to receive Turkish gasification ship BOTAS in June

Arab Finance: Egypt is set to receive the Turkish gasification ship BOTAS next June to supply the country with up to 500 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, in a move to enhance electricity generation capacity during the summer, an unnamed government official told Asharq Business.

The agreement between Egypt and Türkiye specifies that the Turkish vessel will receive liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments and convert them into natural gas from June to November for a cost of approximately $45 million.

The ship will return to Türkiye during the winter months.

This collaboration comes as Egypt has chartered similar ships in recent months to re-gasify imported LNG and integrate it into the national gas grid to ensure sufficient fuel for power plants during peak summer demand.

Egypt plans to continue importing LNG until 2029-2030 to address a decline in domestic natural gas production, which now stands at 4.1 billion cubic feet per day, while daily consumption reaches around 6 billion cubic feet.
