Arab Finance: Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat signed a €1.4 million grant agreement with Spain's Economic and Commercial Advisor in Egypt, Eduardo Soriano, to fund an initial feasibility study for extending the Cairo Metro’s first line from New El-Marg to Shubra El-Kheima, as per a statement.

The grant comes as part of the sustainable transportation projects under Egypt’s "NWFE+" national program.

Al-Mashat emphasized that the agreement aligns with the ministry’s strategy to integrate local resources with international partnerships to support Egypt’s development goals.

She highlighted metro projects as key examples of successful cooperation with development partners, providing environmentally friendly transportation for millions in Greater Cairo.

The minister also reiterated Egypt’s focus on expanding sustainable projects to boost economic development.

Through the "NWFE+" program, the ministry seeks to enhance international collaboration in the transportation sector, with ongoing projects like the Abu Qir railway conversion into an electric metro and the Cairo Metro Line 1 extension.

These initiatives aim to connect governorates and strengthen sustainable infrastructure.
