Arab Finance: Egypt estimates the initial reserves of bp’s newly announced natural gas discovery in the King Mariout concession in the northern Mediterranean Sea at 3 to 4 trillion cubic feet, unnamed government officials told Asharq Business.

bp began drilling two wells in the King Mariout and Fayoum concession areas in the western Delta in January, with investments estimated at $160 million.

The Egyptian Natural Gas Company (EGAS) has started preliminary talks with bp to identify the necessary facilities to begin gas production from the King Mariout discovery in the third quarter (Q3) of this year, one of the officials said.

Another source noted that the second well in King Mariout is currently being drilled to confirm producible rates, expecting this process to be completed in Q2 2025.
