Arab Finance: The National Wages Council (NWC) has decided to raise the minimum wage for private sector workers to EGP 7,000, effective March 1st, as per a statement.
The NWC also set the value of the periodic bonus for private sector workers at a minimum of 3% of the insurance subscription wage, with no less than EGP 250 per month.
A minimum wage for part-time workers has been established for the first time, ensuring their wage will be no less than EGP 28 per hour.
The decision aligns with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to enhance social justice and improve citizens' living standards.
The minimum wage in Egypt’s private sector has evolved since its initial introduction in January 2022 at EGP 2,400, with several increases to keep up with economic changes.
It rose to EGP 2,700 in January 2023, EGP 3,000 in July 2023, EGP 3,500 in January 2024, and EGP 6,000 in May 2024.
