El-Khatib engages with Spanish companies to bolster investment ties

Arab Finance: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib participated in a roundtable discussion at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, as per a statement.

The meeting included representatives from 13 major Spanish companies in transportation, infrastructure, water desalination, engineering industries, aviation, and airport management. 

As part of his visit to Spain, El-Khatib emphasized the strategic partnership between Egypt and Spain, particularly given current global challenges.

He highlighted Egypt’s major national projects as key drivers for economic growth and reviewed the country’s ongoing monetary, financial, and trade reforms aimed at facilitating foreign investment and boosting trade.

He underscored the state’s goal to double Egyptian exports by adopting supportive trade policies.

The minister stressed that the European Union (EU) remains Egypt’s largest trading partner and noted significant opportunities for cooperation and expansion in the coming period.

He pointed out that Egypt offers access to numerous export markets through its network of free and preferential trade agreements with major economic blocs, including the European Union.

Particular attention was given to Egypt’s focus on water desalination, a priority sector where the country aims to benefit from Spanish expertise and technology.

El-Khatib also invited Spanish investors to explore promising opportunities in Egypt’s airport development, medical sector, and renewable energy projects, especially in wind turbine and solar panel manufacturing.

Spanish representatives reaffirmed Egypt’s strategic importance as a destination for Spanish investment. Several companies expressed interest in expanding their operations in Egypt.

A transportation company indicated its eagerness to collaborate on managing train lines, while an airport management firm expressed interest in investing in Egypt’s aviation sector.

Another company voiced its plans to explore opportunities in Egypt’s energy sector.
