Arab Finance: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie announced the start of the actual operation of the Suez Canal duplication project within the southern sector, enhancing navigation for global trade, as per a statement.
During a meeting with Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) Guy Platten and Vice President of the Japan Shipowners Association (JSA) Keiji Tsuchiya, Rabie emphasized the importance of maintaining direct communication with stakeholders in the maritime industry.
The meeting, held via video conference, focused on developments in the Red Sea and Bab El-Mandab region and their impact on navigation plans through the Suez Canal.
Rabie highlighted the SCA’s ongoing efforts to ensure the Suez Canal remains prepared to meet the rapid changes in the maritime transport industry while achieving the highest navigational safety standards.
He noted positive indicators signaling a gradual return to stability in the Red Sea region.
Platten praised the authority’s efforts to support global trade and ensure the sustainability of global supply chains.
He pointed out that while confidence is gradually returning to major shipping lines, it may take several months for full stability in the region.
Tsuchiya commended the SCA for its continuous communication with international shipping organizations, noting that some shipping lines have already resumed using the canal.
However, he stressed that the full return of major shipping lines depends on continued stability and further positive developments in the region’s security and political situation.
