ACWA Power signs agreement to build 2-GW wind farm in Egypt’s Hurghada

Arab Finance: Saudi utility giant ACWA Power has signed a power purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to develop a 2-gigawatt (GW) wind energy project in Hurghada, the largest in the region, in the presence of Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman, as per a statement.

The agreement follows the Egyptian cabinet’s approval, which considered the project part of the government’s strategy to boost electricity production from renewable sources and integrate it into the national grid.

Speaking at EGYPES 2025, bin Salman highlighted that five Saudi renewable energy projects are currently operating in Egypt, with the Hurghada wind farm set to enhance the country’s capabilities.

ACWA Power, 44% owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), has recently signed multiple framework agreements to establish solar and wind projects in Egypt with a total capacity of 10 GW.
