Egypt, Croatia strengthen maritime cooperation between Alexandria, Rijeka ports with new MoU

Arab Finance: The Alexandria Port Authority and the Croatian Port of Rijeka Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in maritime transport, logistics, and infrastructure development while promoting technological exchange, operational efficiency, and sustainability, the Egyptian side announced in a statement.

The signing ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

Madbouly emphasized that the agreement aligns with Egypt Vision 2030 by positioning ports as strategic trade hubs.

He highlighted Alexandria Port’s significance as Egypt’s primary Mediterranean gateway, handling about 60% of the country’s exports and imports, while Rijeka serves as Croatia’s key Adriatic port, connecting to Central and Eastern Europe.

Madbouly stated that the cooperation reflects mutual trust and strengthens links between southern Europe and Africa.

A joint committee will be formed to oversee the implementation of the agreement, with technical negotiations set to begin in the coming weeks to determine cooperation priorities and joint projects.
