Egypt allocates EGP 732.6B in FY2025/26 budget for social protection

Arab Finance: Egypt has allocated EGP 732.6 billion for social protection in the fiscal year (FY) 2025/2026 budget, Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, announced.

Al-Mashat’s remarks came during her participation in the 10th anniversary celebration of the “Takaful and Karama” program, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and other ministers.

She noted that human development is a priority within the economic and social development plan for the next FY, with this plan's target investments amounting to nearly EGP 327 billion, higher by 22% than EGP 268 billion in FY2024/25.

Since the Takaful and Karama program’s launch in 2015, Egypt secured development financing from the World Bank amounting to around $1.4 billion (EGP 70 billion) to achieve sustainability in social protection efforts.

Al-Mashat highlighted that these joint efforts have contributed to reaching more than 4.6 million beneficiary families nationwide, in addition to approximately 17 million direct and indirect beneficiaries.

The minister indicated that a total of $25 million (EGP 1.2 billion) is being allocated from the World Bank to enable families benefiting from the Takaful and Karama program to obtain financing for micro-enterprises to improve their standard of living.
