Egypt’s unemployment rate edges down to 7% in Q2

Arab Finance: The unemployment rate in Egypt recorded 7% of total labor force in the second quarter (Q2) of 2023, slipping by 0.1% from Q1 2023, according to a press release issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The number of unemployed reached 2.169 million in Q2 2023, the data showed.

The unemployment rate among males recorded 4.8% of total male labor force participation, while unemployed females made up 17.3% of total female labor force participation.

Total labor force went up by 1.3% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to 30.969 million in Q2 2023 from 30.571 million.

Labor force in urban communities reached 13.375 million during the April-June period, while it stood at 17.594 million in rural areas.

In terms of gender, the data highlighted that 25.514 million of the Egyptian labor force in the three-month period were males, while 5.455 million were females.
