Arab Finance: Fertiglobe, the world’s largest seaborne exporter of urea and ammonia, has successfully exported the first shipment of certified renewable ammonia that was produced at the company’s factory in Egypt, as per a cabinet statement.
The supplied ammonia will be used to create synthetic soda ash, which has almost no emissions and is a vital component of Unilever's laundry powder, the company said in a statement to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange.
The ammonia was produced at the company's Egypt-based facilities using renewable hydrogen from its experimental Egypt Green Hydrogen electrolyser.
Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilizers will use this ammonia to make soda ash for Unilever's Hindustan Unilever business in India.
Fertiglobe’s Egyptian branch will be able to produce 15,000 tons per year of green hydrogen as a raw material used to produce up to 90,000 tons per year of ammonia.
Egypt’s National Green Hydrogen Strategy has been approved, in preparation for presentation to the Supreme Council of Energy.
In September, Egypt established a national council to attract further investments into green hydrogen projects in the country.
