Group-IB concludes cybersecurity investigation of Fawry

Arab Finance: The cybersecurity firm Group-IB has released its final report on its comprehensive examination of Fawry for Banking Technology and Electronic Payment’s (FWRY) cybersecurity infrastructure, as per a press release.

The report showed that Fawry’s production segment, as well as the live environment that hosts Myfawry, banking apps, Acceptance, Retail, and Fawry Plus, was not subject to a breach and was out of scope of the LockBit ransomware attack.

Therefore, no banking and card data were exfiltrated from the platform.

However, the report confirmed that an isolated part of Fawry’s testing environment, used in modeling and trial changes of the platform, previously faced a cyberattack, which has no impacts on the financial transactions on the platform.

Yet, it only led to the encryption of some data, such as contact information, which does not pose a security risk to financial transactions.

“We are satisfied that any compromise of Fawry’s systems has been neutralized and that the professional investigation we instigated will reassure customers that all financial records and data remain secure on the company’s production servers,” Fawry’s Founder and CEO Ashraf Sabry commented.

Earlier in November, Fawry denied facing a cyberattack, confirming the efficiency and security of its electronic defense across all its platforms.
