Arab Finance: Accor and Orascom Development Egypt have signed a management agreement to reposition Mövenpick El Gouna as Sofitel El Gouna Resort, as per a press release.
The property will undergo a phased renovation starting in 2027, as part of Accor’s expansion in Egypt’s luxury hospitality segment.
The project is being developed in partnership with Arabian Peninsula Hospitality, reflecting a focus on El Gouna’s role as a coastal destination.
Located along the Red Sea, the town brings together residential, tourism, and commercial elements.
Developed by Orascom Development over the past 36 years, El Gouna is home to a diverse international community representing more than 50 nationalities and receives around one million visitors annually.
It is located 30 minutes from Hurghada International Airport and within a five-hour direct flight from the UK and major European cities.
The town includes more than 18 hotels, five schools, a hospital, and established business hubs, alongside over 100 dining venues.
It also hosts cultural and international events such as the El Gouna Film Festival and Taste El Gouna, in addition to sporting competitions.
Sofitel El Gouna Resort will be located on a beachfront peninsula with both sea and lagoon access, supporting the development of a large-scale resort within the destination.
The project aligns with ongoing efforts to expand higher-end hospitality offerings for both residents and visitors.
Following the renovation, the resort will include 420 rooms and suites, redesigned to reflect Sofitel’s design approach, combining contemporary elements with references to Egyptian heritage.
The property will offer multiple dining options, along with leisure and wellness facilities, including a spa, fitness center, and outdoor spaces.
The hotel will also include meeting and event spaces, targeting both leisure and business travelers.
The repositioning of Mövenpick El Gouna comes as Egypt’s tourism sector continues to grow, with increasing demand for higher-end hospitality.
Within this context, Sofitel El Gouna Resort is expected to contribute to the development of the Red Sea as a year-round destination.
