EBRD grants Coca-Cola HBC Egypt $130M loan

Arab Finance: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has granted a $130 million loan to Coca-Cola HBC Egypt to finance the company’s capital expenditures (CAPEX) and working capital requirements, as per a statement.

The loan will be used to boost Coca-Cola HBC’s ongoing investment in Egypt in several fields, including employee capability building, water and energy efficiency, renewable energy, logistics, packaging, and digital innovation.

It will be supplemented by a $750,000 grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to support the adoption of modern wastewater treatment technology and water management systems in Egypt, in accordance with EU discharge standards.

“It [the loan] will enable us to continue driving growth and investing in innovation and the latest sustainable technologies. It will also help us continue building best-in-class capabilities for our people and empowering youth and women through dedicated programs,” Coca-Cola HBC’s CFO Anastasis Stamoulis said, commenting on the loan.

“The new financing will also help alleviate water pollution through the promotion of advanced wastewater treatment technology as well as foster inclusion by increasing employment opportunities and training for Egyptian youth, benefitting the local economy,” EBRD Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, Heike Harmgart, said.
