Arab Finance: Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced that E. coli bacteria is the cause of recent illnesses in Aswan, leading to widespread symptoms of intestinal flu among residents, as per a statement.
In a press conference, Abdel Ghaffar explained that laboratory tests on diarrhea samples revealed the presence of E. coli, which can be transmitted through contaminated food or water.
So far, around 480 individuals have sought treatment in hospitals, with 168 cases admitted.
Currently, 78 patients are recovering, while 36 remain in intermediate and intensive care, many of whom have chronic health issues.
Despite the situation, Abdel Ghaffar stated that the average number of daily hospital visits is low, at 18 to 19 cases.
To ensure public safety, the ministry conducts regular testing of drinking water. Analysis from local water stations confirmed that the water is safe for consumption, addressing concerns about potential contamination from the Nile.
The first reports of intestinal flu in Aswan emerged on September 16th.
