Arab Finance: The Egyptian government is probing ways of strengthening cooperation with Siemens Energy in expanding renewables and green hydrogen projects and promoting digital transformation in the power generation field, as per a statement.
This came during a meeting between Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Managing Director of Siemens Energy for Africa Dietmar Siersdorfer, and the company’s Managing Director in Egypt Ashraf Hamasa.
They also discussed the possibility of operating gas generation plants by the hydrogen co-firing system to reduce carbon emissions resulted from fossil fuel.
The meeting also highlighted the operation of two gas units at the Burullus Power Plant using a 30% hydrogen-natural gas blend.
A hydrogen production unit using desalinated water is set to be installed at Burullus, positioning Egypt as a leader in the global green hydrogen market.
Esmat emphasized the ministry's commitment to Egypt's newly adopted energy strategy, which focuses on reducing fuel consumption, improving energy efficiency, and transforming the country’s power grid into a smart grid capable of handling increased renewable energy capacity.
