East Port Said Port has welcomed the Astrid Maersk, a vessel powered by green methanol docking at the Suez Canal Container Terminal and APM Terminal (SCCT/APMT).

Abu Dhabi Ports Group (AD Ports) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Egypt-based Transmar and Orascom Construction to mull the possibility of establishing a green methanol storage and export facility in Egypt.

A delegation from the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) headed by Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dein participated in the official naming ceremony of Laura Maersk, the first ship powered by green fuel in the world.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla met with Terje Pilskog, CEO of the Norwegian Scatec, to review the latest developments of the company’s ongoing green projects in Egypt.

The vessel, owned by Maersk, has been supplied with 500 tons of the green fuel by the barge Lara S, which belongs to the global service provider OCI, which works in the field of supplying ships with green fuel.

The project will also cover the establishment of 40-megawatt (MW) solar power plants, 120-MW wind farms, a 60-MW hydrogen electrolyzer, a water desalination plant, and green methanol production and storage plants. Moreover, it will include the first refueling station in Egypt for vessels running on green biofuel.
