By the end of March 2024, Egypt's external debt was primarily in US dollars, making up 67.4% of the total, as per data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) accounted for 11.9%, while 11.4% was in euros.
Other currencies included the Chinese yuan at 2.9%, Kuwaiti dinar at 2.3%, Japanese yen at 2.1%, and other currencies made up 2%.
Egypt's external debt has seen its biggest drop in history, decreasing by over $14.17 billion from $168.03 billion in December 2023 to $153.86 billion at the end of May.
